The first sports car was named the Datsun 240Z, which has the charming appearance of a European car, the astonishing power of an American car, and the fine quality that Japanese cars pride themselves on. Of course, it also has a very good cost-effectiveness.
The Datsun240Z was designed by the Count of Albrecht Graf Goertz and draws on the design elements of the Jaguar E-model. In the 1960s and 1970s, it was a period of vigorous development for Japanese cars, and various car manufacturers had experience of "learning from". In terms of body design, it is still a small feat compared to the imitation ability of some domestic car manufacturers. After all, the current hot selling "shanzhai" car models in China can almost achieve the level of being fake with counterfeit logos.
Datsun 240Z is equipped with a 2.4L Straight-six engine produced by Prince Motor Company. Although the top mounted single camshaft technology and the layout of the same side intake and exhaust manifold used in this engine now seem outdated, at that time, the power performance of this engine was already quite good, with a maximum power of 150 horsepower and a transmission system matched with a four speed manual transmission.
Compared to many luxury brand sports cars, the Datsun 240Z is priced lower, with a price of only $3500 back then, making it highly popular among users. While causing a huge sensation, it also achieved great success in business. In 1974, Nissan upgraded its 240Z to 260Z, expanding its engine capacity to 2.6 liters.
In 1977, a larger displacement 2.8 liter SOHC six cylinder engine was developed, and the new car was named 280Z, replacing the 260Z. The Datsun sports car was only sold in the United States and Japan at that time. Therefore, Nissan's sports brand in the United States is strictly not Infiniti but Datsun. However, in the later stages of the Great Depression, the Datsun brand closed in 1986.
In 2013, although Datsun was restarted, it mainly focused on markets in India, Russia, and other regions.
