In 1969, Nissan launched its first GT-R high-performance model and its first Z-series sports car. At the 2019 New York International Auto Show, Nissan paid tribute to the 50th anniversary of its high-performance models by showcasing the past Z-series and GT-R, as well as the new special edition models. Let's take a look at several past Z-series and GT-R models.
Datsun-240Z Series I (1969)
This car has opened up all of this for Nissan's high-performance cars on the world stage. The Datsun 240Z is considered an affordable daily sports car for car buyers. Equipped with 2.4L Straight-six engine (USA) or 2.0L engine (Japan). Sales have been strong from the beginning, with 40000 to 50000 units sold annually in the United States during the first four years of production.
Nissan Skyline 2000 GT-R (1971)
Nissan's first Skyline GT-R, known as PGC10 or Hakosuka, was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1969. Equipped with Straight-six engine, it produces 160 horsepower. It dominated the Japanese RV race, winning 52 games in its first three years.
Nissan Airlade 280Z 2+2 (1978)
The second generation Z (S130), equipped with a 2.0-liter (Japan only) or 2.8-liter engine, was launched in August 1978 as a 280ZX (Fairlady 280Z in Japan). The new car provides greater interior space, offering dual seater and 2+2 versions.
Nissan 300ZX (1983)
The third generation Z (Z31) was launched in 1983, equipped with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine with a drag coefficient of 0.31, partly thanks to its pop-up headlight design. The following year, it became the best-selling sports car in the United States.
Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 (1989)
The 8th generation Skyline (R32) was launched in May 1989. Three months later, the GT-R nameplate returned after 16 years of absence. Equipped with a 2.6-liter inline six cylinder twin turbocharged engine with model RB26DETT, it produces 276 horsepower and 271 pound foot of torque.
Nissan 300ZX (1990)
The fourth generation Z-series model (Z32) was launched in July 1989, exactly 20 years after the first generation 240Z. Both the two seater and 2+2 versions are equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 engine.
Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 (1995)
From 1995 to 1998, the R33 was close to its predecessor in terms of mechanical performance, including an improved version of the R32 RB26DETT engine and a 5-speed gearbox.
Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V Spec (1999)
The R34 Skyline GT-R was launched in Japan from 1998 to 2002. On the basis of R33, the new R34 GT-R V Spec is equipped with an upgraded ATTESA E-TS Pro AWD system.
Nissan GT-R R35 (2008)
R35 made its debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2007. In July 2008, the GT-R was launched as the 2009 model in the United States, marking its first official import into the United States. The car is powered by a 480 horsepower 3.8-liter twin turbocharged V6 engine.
Nissan 370Z Coupe (2009)
The 370Z was launched in 2009, inspired by the Z-series model of the 1970s, equipped with a new 3.7-liter V6 engine that produces 332 horsepower. Matched with a 7-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission.
