Lancer's comprehensive facelift ignites the Wild Evolution 7
Due to the comprehensive facelift of the Lancer series, which has been highly anticipated by car enthusiasts, the development of the EVO VII has been affected. Therefore, there are various opinions on what kind of appearance the EVO VII will be launched after the Lancer facelift. However, all of this became clear after the official release of the EVO VII in Japan on January 26, 2001.
The exterior of the EVO VII is based on the newly redesigned Lancer Cedia, but still retains the strong momentum of the EVO series. The front part of the car roughly maintains the style of the series, with a shield shaped heat sink on the hood, making it feel familiar with the front and rear leaf panels arched outward, giving it a more domineering look. The design of the tail wing is based on the double layer design of EVO VI and the single layer design of EVO V. In terms of interior design, the combat atmosphere is naturally even stronger than before. Otherwise, how could it be called "evolution"? The design is based on Lancer, but the materials and configurations used are all very sporty. The metal center console, Momo's three spoke sports car steering wheel with airbags, and Recaro's specially designed racing seats show an extraordinary atmosphere. In terms of power system, although the 2.0-liter DOHC turbocharged engine of the 4G63 model is still used, and due to the Japanese law's 280ps horsepower limit, the evolution direction is developing towards torque. After the improvement of the turbocharger and heat dissipation system, as well as the lightweight design of parts such as the hollow camshaft, an astonishing maximum torque of 39.0kg/3500rpm is squeezed, which can be called the world's highest. Unfortunately, the EVO VII was not equipped with a six speed manual transmission as expected by car enthusiasts, only paired with a highly mature five speed manual transmission. Although the EVO VII is not equipped with a six speed transmission, it is equipped with a newly developed ACD (Active Center Differential) active electronic center differential, which electronically controls the variable multi plate clutch mechanism. Its efficiency is more than three times higher than the previous VCU type. Coupled with the original AYC (Active Yaw Control) active bias control system, it has significantly improved road feel feedback and tracking performance. In terms of body and chassis, although the EVO VII has a larger body size in terms of length, height, and wheelbase compared to the EVO VI, its lightweight work is not careless at all. The suspension system and frame are all made of forged aluminum alloy material, combined with reinforcement work at the joints, which greatly improves the rigidity of the EVO VII and its bending resistance is 1.5 times higher than the previous generation. However, the body weight only increases by 40kg. The suspension system of EVO VII still adopts the front MacPherson strut and rear multi link design, but in response to the expansion of the vehicle body, the suspension arms and connecting parts have been strengthened, and the shock absorption stroke has been increased to achieve the optimal setting of the inertial center height.
