On June 8th and 9th, 2023, the China Automobile Chongqing Forum was held at the Yuelai International Convention Centre in Chongqing. The theme of the event was "Shaping the Future of the Industry in the Age of Transformation". This year, the forum continued to introduce innovations based on prior successful experiences and invited representatives from automobile enterprises, technological enterprises, automotive investors, technology research and development, major component enterprises, overseas businesses, and industry to join the discussion and gain insight into the automobile industry under the new development pattern from their own perspectives.

China's Automotive Industry Celebrates 70th Anniversary

During the forum, Wang Xia, the President of the China International Trade Promotion Commission Automotive Industry Committee and the President of the China Chamber of International Commerce Automotive Industry Chamber, delivered a speech. Wang mentioned that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of China’s automobile industry. Starting from zero in 1953, China has become the world’s number one vehicle production and sales country for the last 14 years and the world’s number one new energy vehicle sales country for the last 8 years, with the market share of Chinese-brand cars approaching 60%. Wang Xia believes that "several generations of the automobile industry have written an epic of industrial development in half a century of time".

Meeting Record

Respected guests, good afternoon!

China's automotive industry celebrates its 70th anniversary this year. From its humble beginnings in 1953 to its current market share of nearly 60% of Chinese-brand vehicles, it has come a long way. The automotive industry is shifting from the fuel era to the electric and intelligent era. China's automotive industry has shifted from quantity-based competition to high-quality development, which means that innovation is the primary driving force, coordination is the endogenous feature, greenness is the universal form, openness is the inevitable route, and shared benefits are the root purpose of development.

To achieve high-quality development, we must focus on core technologies such as energy density, charging speed, safety, and cost of power battery systems, as well as new chassis architecture, electronic architecture, intelligent driving systems, computing power algorithms, and other key areas. Coordination between supply and demand is essential, as is the development of domestic and international markets, both on the supply and demand sides, so as to build an ecological community of people, cars, the economy, society, and the environment.

Being environmentally friendly is not only the social responsibility of new energy cars but also the cornerstone of their sustainable development. We must continue to reduce emissions from end products for low-carbon environmental protection throughout the industrial chain and the entire life cycle.

Lastly, we must use an open attitude and a global pattern to achieve the fundamental purpose of sharing. Multinational car companies are deepening their localization strategies in China, and the globalization of Chinese car companies is accelerating. This is conducive to the sharing of resources and opportunities at the industrial level and also to the universal benefit of global technological changes.

Thank you.
